Tape Measures
Print the Tape Measures onto A4 paper. Cut out the six sections and stick them together to create your own tape measure.
Fact Sheets
The Good Measures "Good Nutrition Fact Sheet" is a very good summary of what food types to consume and simple exercise advice. We will add more fact sheets over time. Please let us know if you want a specific topic covered.
Body Mass Index Calculator
To get an estimate of your body mass index see the calculator below. BMI is a ratio between weight and height. It is a mathematical formula that correlates with body fat, used to tell if you are at an unhealthy weight (given a certain height). BMI value is more useful for predicting health risks than the weight alone (for ages 18 and over).
For Australians the following are terms describing weight using the BMI as the measure:
< 18.5 Underweight
18.5-25 Normal
25-30 Overweight
Above 30 Obese
Above 35 Severely obese
Above 40 Morbidly obese
Above 50 Superobese
Limitations for BMI:
For athletes or body builders: The BMI can be misleading for athletes who have less low body fat but get a high BMI because of muscle mass. The BMI calculates weight and height only so it assumes the mass is fat.
For children: You should express weight as a percentile so it is comparable to kids at the same age and gender.
For different races: For some races it needs modification. For instance with Chinese, Indian or Malaysian people a BMI over 23 is overweight and over 27.5 is obese.
